What is Show and Tell?
It’s a newsletter that takes a particular visual or type of visual and breaks down its construction and associations, so as to better understand why it has the effect on us that it does.
Why do you write it?
I got interested in semiotics while working on my master’s thesis. I realised at the time that we are trained to read words and to look for metaphors and associations within sentences and paragraphs, but we simply aren’t taught to read images in the same way. In an increasingly visual culture, the ability to read images and understand their power is critical. So, I figured I’d write about it myself.
